Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has rejected reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid in the summer.

Reports from Spain claim Real have earmarked Mourinho as the successor to Fabio Capello, whose days in Spain look numbered following Real’s 4th league defeat in six at the hands of Levante on Sunday.

Mourinho’s future at Chelsea has also been the subject of speculation in the last few months amid reports of a bust-up with club owner Roman Abramovich.

“It’s an insult to Real Madrid and Fabio Capello,” said Mourinho of the speculation.

“I don’t play these games. If somebody else is interested in playing games, it’s their problem.

“I respect Real Madrid and Fabio Capello. For sure I spoke with nobody and nobody spoke to me.

“This season is much more enjoyable,” said Mourinho. “It’s encouraged me to stay.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado backed Capello, and called for unity after Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to struggling Levante.

“You can understand that people are tired and bored because it has been like this for three and a half years,” said Salgado.

“The only solution is to continue working. The blame is on everyone, not just the coach or the players. We have to back Capello. It is more important than ever to be united.”
